Greenstar Bikes Introduces the First Modern, Affordable Bamboo Bicycle.
Greenstar Bikes is proud to offer quality bamboo bikes that fit everyone's budget. With a retail price tag under $600, the Greenstar Ecoforce 1™ model bamboo bicycle is affordable, reliable and based on a green, renewable, family-farmed resource. The new bike will be available soon at independent bicycle dealers in the Midwest.
The Ecoforce 1 combines performance and beauty with environmental and social responsibility to deliver a fully functional work of art that actually costs less than most aluminum bikes of its kind. This single-speed bike comes with a reversible hub so riders can easily switch from freewheel to fixed-wheel, and it's available in three colors and four sizes.
“It took us almost three years of research, design, and testing to create our proprietary bike frame technology and a unique process for mass production," says Eric Hiller of Greenstar Bikes. "Our company mission is to deliver a quality bamboo bike at a low price point.”
“After all, what good is green if no one can afford it?” says Hiller.
Bamboo is one of the most environmentally sound and socially responsible natural materials on the planet. It grows fast, requires no pesticides or herbicides, and can be harvested over and over again without killing the plant.
With virtually no barriers to entry, no harmful emissions or byproducts, and no complicated infrastructure needs, bamboo is the perfect cash crop for emerging economies. Harvesting is simple and requires no complex machinery. Greenstar Bikes uses bamboo harvested by family farmers. And there's no work to be done after the harvest: no plowing, reseeding, or soil reclamation.
Bamboo is perfect for bicycles. It is stronger than steel, light as aluminum, and stiff like carbon fiber. Bamboo's natural vibration dampening qualities provide the smoothest ride of any materials. And it looks beautiful. The problem has always been that bamboo bikes cost thousands of dollars, putting them well out of reach of most consumers. Not anymore.
